signing day is coming up in February

tryouts for DII and NAIA will begin next quarter.

your twitter profile should contain your name has your "handle" height, weight jersey number, HS, GPA, graduation year. A football action pic either in your profile or backsplash page. Hudl highlight link and your email.

Work with your coaches to determine best fit for next level.

Keep all of your social media accounts clean football related and respectable.

Do not let a 40 character tweet ruin your chances of a 250K scholarship.

April 15 to May 31, DI coaches were able to call you once. Starting September 1, DI coaches can start calling you on a weekly basis.

Research colleges, reach out to coaches and start building relationships quickly so you don't fall behind your competition.

Remember, coaches at all levels can now have full contact with their recruits, so keep researching schools at every level to give yourself a fair chance.

If you have been communicating with coaches, especially at the DI level, it may be important to start asking what, where and when.

For example, "what else do you need from me to make a final evaluation?"

"Where do I stand on your list of recruits for my position?"

"When do you usually make offers to student-athletes in my recruiting class?"

Starting with your first day of classes your senior year you are allowed to make official visits to colleges.

Develop a 3-3-3 list: three programs that may be a reach for you athletically and academically, three programs that are a good fit, and three that are back-ups.

Start with the top schools on your list and work down, whether taking official or unofficial visits of these schools.

Remember, you are only allowed five official visits to DI and DII schools if you enroll in a DI college, and most DI schools will be finished recruiting for the senior class at this time. DII, DIII and NAIA are making offers.

As you're getting ready to accept an offer, think about targeting additional programs outside of your 3-3-3 list that compete against your top colleges athletically and academically to create leverage for financial aid.

  • Remember, last minute DI offers will be made now, so some coaches may still be evaluating you at your high school games. DII, DIII and NAIA will do most of their recruiting this upcoming winter.

During you're final high school season, make sure you are staying healthy, eating right and getting hydrated before two-a-days!

Make sure someone is filming all of your games.
